Softball Splits Wednesday Twinbill With Mount Olive

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team used a grand slam from Jordan Adcox in the bottom of the third inning of game two to secure a split of a non-conference twinbill with Mount Olive on Wednesday afternoon at the UNCP Softball Field. The Trojans captured game one, 12-3, but UNCP halved the doubleheader in the nightcap with a 9-1 victory in six innings.
 
It was the 11th home win of the season for the Braves (11-9) who improved to 36-31 all-time in the series with Mount Olive. The setback in the late game snapped a 16-game win streak for the Trojans (17-3).

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 1 Ada Previtte drew a leadoff walk, and Madison Morgan sent one out of the park with the next at-bat to give Mount Olive an early lead.
BOT 1 The Braves loaded up the bases with two outs in the bottom of the frame, and got consecutive RBI singles from Emily Biddle and Kaitlynn Norton to surge ahead, 3-2. 
TOP 5 The visitors put a pair of runners into scoring position with their first two at-bats of the inning, and Haley Brogden's 2-run double minutes later gave Mount Olive the lead for good. Hannah Burress smacked a two-out RBI double down the left field line to cap off the 3-run frame that put the Trojans on top, 6-3.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Rendi Wetherington singled and stole a base to lead off the bottom of the first for the Braves and eventually scored off of a costly throwing error by the visitors.
TOP 3 Mount Olive put together back-to-back one-out hits, including a RBI double from Madison Morgan, to knot the game back up.
BOT 3 UNCP loaded the bases on three-straight singles to start the inning, and Jordan Adcox cleared the bases with a grand slam over the left field fence that put the Braves up 5-1.

UP NEXT
The Braves will open up a three-game road trip on Saturday when they make the short trip to Fayetteville State (5-7). First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Lamon Street Park.
