Softball Splits Midweek Twinbill With Chowan

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh of a close game-one loss, but used timely hitting early in game two to secure a doubleheader split with Chowan on Tuesday afternoon at the UNCP Softball Field. Chowan took game one, 5-3, but UNCP led for all seven innings in a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.
 
The series split helped the Braves (4-2) improve to 20-6 all-time against Chowan (1-1) who opened up its season in Pembroke on Tuesday. The game-two victory marked UNCP head coach Brittany Bennett's 154th as UNCP skipper and moved the seventh year head coach atop the program's all-time wins list.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 1 Brittany Parson lit up the scoreboard for Chowan with a solo home run to centerfield.
BOT 1 Mary Sells doubled to left field, and Jordan Adcox cleared the bases with a homerun to centerfield to swing the lead over to the hosts.  
TOP 2 Meredith Morgan registered the third home run of the game, this time a shot to left field that knotted the score at 2-2.
TOP 4 The Hawks put runners on first and second to set the table for Shannon Buchanan who singled up the middle to put Chowan ahead, 3-2.
BOT 5 Jordan Adcox led off the frame with a double to the gap in right field. Adcox advanced on a ground out and scored on a single from Kaitlynn Norton to tie the score at 3-3.
TOP 7 Brittany Parson drew a walk before Lindsey Stigler sent one over the fence to put the visitors up for good.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Tatum Brummitt singled up the middle to score Rendi Wetherington who reached on a hit by pitch..
BOT 2 Emily Biddle (walk) and Shelby Thomas (error) both reached to start the inning, and both players eventually scored to push the lead out to 3-0.
TOP 4 EmaRae Flores doubled to left field and moved to the hot corners on a single from Serena Riley. Shannon Buchanan's fielder's choice allowed Flores to score with the only run of the game for the Hawks.

The Braves will be travel to South Carolina on Saturday to take on Newberry (2-0). First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Smith Road Complex.
