No. 28 Baseball Uses Short Game To Top No. 22 Wingate

WINGATE – The 28^th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team rallied back from an early 1-0 deficit with four unanswered runs and got a solid outing from its three-armed pitching staff on the way to a 4-1 victory over 22^nd-ranked Wingate on Tuesday evening at Ron Christopher Stadium.

The result pushed the win streak for UNCP (18-5) out to 11 games, while also helping the Black & Gold pick up its 27^th win in the last 31 matchups with the Bulldogs dating back to the 2004 campaign. The loss snapped a five-game win streak for Wingate (15-6).

KEY INNINGS
BOT 1	McCann Mellett got the scoring started for both teams when he hammered a 1-and-1 offering from UNCP starter Brandon Winstead over the fence in right field.
TOP 2	Bobby Dixon led off the frame with a double to left field, and moved 90 feet away thanks to Alex Simpson's bunt single moments later. Jarratt Mobley's RBI groundout with the next at-bat knotted the game back up.
TOP 7	Bobby Dixon led off the seventh with a double to the gap in left field, and eventually scored on a costly throwing error by the Bulldogs.
TOP 7	Trevor Clemons reached on an error to begin the ninth, and eventually scored on bunts from Brennen Hogan (sacrifice) and Alex Simpson (RBI single). A wild pitch moved Hogan and Simpson into position, and UNCP made it a 4-1 game on Jarratt Mobley's suicide squeeze bunt.

The Braves will close out their seven-game road trip this weekend when they step back into Peach Belt Conference play to take on sixth-ranked Georgia College (13-2, 9-2 PBC) in a three-game series at John Kurtz Field.
