Volleyball Finishes Off Season Sweep Of Coker

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit .286 at the net, matched a season-low with 12 attack errors and registered double-digit service aces for the sixth time this season as the Braves finished off a season sweep of Coker with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) sweep of the Cobras on Tuesday evening in Pembroke.
 
The result marked the 10th win in the last 11 outings for the Braves (14-6) who have now picked up back-to-back series victories over the Cobras for the first time since the 2014 and 2015 campaigns. It was the 12th-straight loss for Coker (1-12) who dropped a 3-1 affair to the Black & Gold on September 14 in Hartsville.

SET 1 I 25-17 Coker used a kill from Chelsey Blume to forge an early 8-5 advantage, but the Braves answered with a 12-2 run that helped them storm out front for good. The Cobras strung together four-straight points to pull to within 20-16, but UNCP closed out the opening set with five of the final six points, including a set-point opportunity that led to block assists by Brianna Warren and Shannon Skryd.
SET 2 I 25-17 The second set provided a similar tale as the Cobras took an early 6-3 advantage following a kill from Taylor Parker before the hosts responded with 10-straight points to swing the momentum. The Cobras used a pair of three-point scoring spurts to close the deficit back to 18-14, but the Braves raked in seven of the set's final 10 points to take control of the evening.
SET 3 I 25-17 UNCP hit a match-best .316 in the third and final set, and accentuated the team victory with 16 kills in the final stanza as well. The Braves led 10-4 after block assists from Shannon Skryd and Erin O'Donnell, and then hit cruise control the rest of the way out. The Cobras made it a 21-17 set on Taylor Parker's kill before the Black & Gold closed out the night with four-straight points, including a pair of kills by Brianna Warren.

SERIES NOTE
The Braves have now picked up consecutive wins in the series with Coker for the first time since the 2014 and 2015 seasons. It is the first time since the 2013 campaign that the Black & Gold has swept a home-and-home series with the Cobras.
