Volleyball Rallies, Upsets Augusta In Four Sets

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team combined for 44 kills and took advantage of 32 Augusta errors and rallied from one-set down to claim a 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23) upset victory over the Jaguars on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The victory for the Braves (2-1, 2-1 PBC) marks the first win against Augusta in the last 14 meeting. The Jaguars (1-2, 1-2 PBC) marks the second road loss this season.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 16-25 Augusta scored the first six points of the contest, but UNC Pembroke picked up a kill from Elly Hicks to trail 14-11. The Jaguars scored four straight points to earn a set point, but a service error from Kylie Martin kept the Braves alive. Augusta closed the set with a kill from Alexis Diaz-Infante.
SET 2 I 25-21 Augusta committed 12 errors in the second set, but an attack error from Brianna Warren knotted the score at 12 apiece. The Braves claimed nine of the next 16 points and finished the set on a 4-0 run to take set two 25-21.
SET 3 I 25-23 The Braves hit better than .200 at the net, but trailed 15-12 after a kill from April Tankersley. UNCP tied the score at 21 apiece off of a service ace from Kaila Crowder, and took just its second lead of the set on a kill from Shannon Skryd. The Jaguars fended off one set point, but a kill from April Tankersley gave the Braves set two 25-23.
SET 4 I 25-23 UNCP took a slight 12-11 advantage with an attack errors from the Jaguars. In a momentum-swinging set, the Braves strung together four straight points for a match point. Augusta picked up two kills and used a Braves error to close the gap, but April Tankersley smacked a kill for the win.
