Red-Hot Flagler Too Much For Volleyball

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Unbeaten and Peach Belt Conference-leading Flagler hit nearly .320 at the net and committed just 12 errors on the day on the way to posting a 3-0 (12-25, 19-25, 11-25) victory over the visiting UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Saturday afternoon in Flagler Gym.
 
It was the second-straight loss for the Braves (3-3, 3-3 PBC) who will open up a two-match home stand on Thursday against Lander (1-4, 1-4) at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. It was the seventh-straight win for Flagler (9-2, 7-0) who improved to 25-1 all-time in the series with UNCP.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 12-25 The Saints committed just two hitting errors in the opening set and reeled off 10-straight points midway through the set to fuel the 25-12 victory. UNCP trailed just 7-6 following a bad set by the Saints, but the hosts strung together a 10-0 run to pull away for good, and split the last six points of the set to finish it off.
SET 2 I 19-25 The Braves tacked up five consecutive points to grab an early 9-7 advantage, but Flagler stayed persistent and a 7-1 run by the Peach Belt Conference leaders proved to be the difference. The Braves pulled to within two points, 20-18, on an attack error by the Saints, but Flagler put up five of the set's final six points to go up by two sets.
SET 3 I 11-25 Mistakes were at a rarity for the Saints in the third and final set of the day. Flagler scored seven consecutive points to build a 15-6 lead before letting off the gas, and then pocketed the win by collecting seven of the last eight points on the day.
