No. 24 Baseball Runs Win Streak Out To 11 Games, Sweeps Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team pounded out 20 hits, including 11 of the extra-base variety, and scored 17 times behind a solid outing from right-hander Darren Bowen to complete a weekend sweep of Lander with a 17-4 victory over the Bearcats on Sunday.
 
The Braves (19-5, 15-3 PBC) pushed their win streak out to 11 games, while also registering their fifth weekend sweep of the season as well. It was UNCP's most lopsided win over the Bearcats (14-11, 10-10) since a 24-9 rout on April 18, 2015.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1 River Ryan reached via a two-out single, and Gage Hammonds and Bobby Dixon followed with consecutive run-scoring hits to give the Braves a lead they would not relinquish.
TOP 4 The Braves loaded the bases with their first three at-bats in the frame, and pushed their lead out to three runs, 4-1, on a 2-run double from Wellington Guzman. Run-scoring at-bats from Garrett Littleton (groundout) and Trevor Clemons (sac fly) stretched the advantage out to 6-1.

UP NEXT
UNCP will get a short break from competition before heading to northeast Georgia on Friday and Saturday for a weekend set against Peach Belt Conference rival Augusta (4-15, 3-14 PBC). The squads will open up the weekend with a 3 p.m. contest on Good Friday, and close out the series with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
