Young Harris Takes Series Finale With No. 14 Baseball

PEMBROKE – Visiting Young Harris pounded out 10 hits, but used a costly error to take the lead for good in a messy fourth inning for the 14th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team, as the Mountain Lions fended off a weekend sweep with a 7-3 win over the Braves on Sunday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The result snapped a 14-game home win streak for the Braves (8-4, 6-3 PBC) who had not tasted defeat in Pembroke since a 4-3 loss to Lock Haven on February 8 of last season. The triumph snapped a four-game losing streak for the Mountain Lions (4-6, 4-5).

KEY INNINGS
BOT 3 Grant Elliott climbed aboard via a two-out single, stole second and moved to third via a costly passed ball on a called third strike that would have signaled the end of the inning. Instead, a 2-run single from Gage Hammonds minutes later gave the Braves their first lead of the contest.
TOP 4 Tucker Greer singled to lead off the frame and Rome Wallace followed with a two-out single a short time later to put two aboard for the Mountain Lions. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, and a fielding error would eventually bring both runs across the plate to hand the lead back to Young Harris.
