Multi-Run Surges Help Wingate Top No. 14 Baseball In Midweek Tilt

WINGATE – Home-standing Wingate sent a dozen batters to the plate in a decisive 8-run fifth inning and the Bulldogs cruised to a 16-4 win over the 14th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team on Tuesday evening at Ron Christopher Stadium.
 
It was the second-straight road loss for the Braves (8-5) who will return home this weekend to take on 13th-ranked and Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia College in a three-game set at Sammy Cox Field. It was just the second win for the Bulldogs (10-5) in the last nine matchups with their U.S. 74 rivals.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 5 Christian Jayne absorbed a 2-and-2 offering into his left side to load the bases for the Braves with two outs, and River Ryan took care of the rest when he hit a bases-clearing triple to right field. A costly error two pitches later brought Ryan scurrying home with the game-tying run.
BOT 5 Unable to hold off a game-tying rally in the top of the inning, Wingate put together one of its own in the home half. The Bulldogs pounded out seven hits, including six of the extra-base variety, and scored seven times to take an 11-4 advantage into the sixth.

The Braves will be back home again this weekend when they suit up to battle 13th-ranked Georgia College (8-2, 7-2 PBC) in a Friday/Saturday series at Sammy Cox Field. The squads will open up the set with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday, before closing out the weekend with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
