Bonynge, No. 14 Baseball Knock Off No. 8 Georgia College

PEMBROKE – The 14th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to provide more than enough offense for right-hander Bucky Bonynge, and the Braves took the opening game of a weekend series for the seventh-straight time with a 10-1 victory over No. 8 Georgia College on Friday at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The result snapped a two-game series losing streak for the Braves (9-5, 7-3 PBC) who improved to 5-1 at home this season with the victory as well. It was the second-straight setback for the Bobcats (8-3, 7-3) who had a four-game win streak snapped on Sunday at USC Aiken.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 Bobby Dixon (hit by pitch) and Christian Jayne (single) climbed aboard in consecutive at-bats, and Grant Elliott gave the Braves the lead for good on a RBI single to the gap in left field. A costly passed ball minutes later padded the lead out to 2-0.
TOP 7 Baylin Moore's one-out single to right field put two aboard for the Bobcats, and Jay Saunders moved to third after Garrett Littleton caught the back half of a double steal attempt by the visitors. An ill-timed error as a result of the next at-bat helped Georgia College cut its deficit in half as Austin Holloway came scurrying home.
BOT 7 Bobby Dixon doubled to lead off the frame, and Christian Jayne's RBI single to right field pushed UNCP's lead back out to two runs, 3-1. Grant Elliott laced a single up the middle to score Jayne, and Trevor Clemons hit a 2-run bomb later in the frame to pad the lead out to 6-1.

UNCP will close out its weekend series with the nationally-ranked Bobcats with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Sammy Cox Field. First pitch of the opener of the twinbill is slated for 1 p.m.
