No. 16 Baseball Takes Two From Francis Marion, Pushes Win Streak To 16

PEMBROKE – The 16th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team pounded out 28 hits and scored 31 times across a doubleheader sweep of Francis Marion, and the Braves matched a decade-old school record with their 15th- and 16th-straight wins on Sunday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field. UNCP came away with a 13-5 win over the Patriots in Sunday's opener, before registering an abbreviated (7 innings) 18-4 triumph in the nightcap.
 
The wins pushed UNCP's (24-5, 20-3 PBC) month-long win streak out to 16 games which matches a program-best winning skein that spanned the 2009 and 2010 seasons. It was the third and fourth losses in the last five outings for the Patriots (13-14, 11-14) who have now dropped nine of the last 12 matchups in the series with the Black & Gold.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 3 Trystan Freeman kicked off the inning with a game-tying solo homer, and Francis Marion took its only lead of the afternoon later in the frame on a two-out RBI single off of the bat of Todd Mattox.
BOT 5 The Braves loaded the bases with their first three at-bats of the frame, and Ramsey Petty gave the hosts the lead for good with a 2-run single to centerfield.
BOT 7 UNCP sent eight batters to the plate in a 5-run inning that blew the game wide open. The Braves plated a pair of runs on a costly wild pitch, and Bobby Dixon delivered the big blow of the frame with a 3-run bomb to left field.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 The Braves loaded the bases with their first three at-bats of the game, and a 2-run single from Gage Hammonds with the next at-bat put the hosts in front for good. A costly passed ball, as well as a RBI double from Bobby Dixon, pushed the lead out to four runs.
BOT 2 Garrett Littleton (hit by pitch) and Trevor Clemons (single) both reached base safely to start the frame, and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Spencer Faulkner. A monstrous 3-run homer off the bat of River Ryan swung the momentum back to the Braves after the Patriots had plated a pair of runs in the top half of the inning.
