Volleyball Cruises At Young Harris, Earns PBC Tournament Berth

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit a season-high .360 at the net and committed just seven errors to cruise to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-11) victory at Young Harris and clinch a spot in next week's Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals.
 
The win put a cap on a .500 regular season for the Braves (7-7, 7-7 PBC) and also helped the Black & Gold match the 2001 and 2011 squads for the most league victories in 27 years. The result put the cap on a winless inaugural season for the Mountain Lions (0-14, 0-14).
 
Fourth-seeded UNCP will now head to St. Augustine, Fla., on Wednesday to face top-seeded Flagler (15-3, 13-1) in the opening round of the 2021 spring PBC Tournament. The winner of that matchup will take on second-seeded Augusta or third-seeded USC Aiken in Saturday's championship game.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-11 The Braves hit .393 in the opening set to establish the tone early. The visitors tacked up five separate runs of three or more points, including a 7-0 run that closed out the set.
SET 2 I 25-13 If the first set was any indication of UNCP's goal on the day, the second set provided further evidence. The Black & Gold hit .448 in the second set, and led 12-4 after a kill from April Tankersley midway through. Young Harris tacked up consecutive points to make it a 16-9 set, but the Braves captured nine of the final 13 points to close it out.
SET 3 I 25-11 UNCP raked in 11 of the first 14 points to all but seal the outcome on the day. Young Harris won consecutive points to cut its deficit back to 13-7, but the Braves registered 10 of the next 13 points to pull away for good. The Black & Gold finished off the afternoon with a kill by Brianna Warren, as well as an attack error by the Mountain Lions.
