No. 14 Baseball Drops Both Ends Of Twinbill At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Flagler racked up a combined 24 hits and used big innings in both games to sweep a series-opening twinbill over the visiting and 14th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team on Saturday in northeast Florida. The Saints held off a ninth-inning rally to steal a 5-3 decision in the opener, and closed out the Saturday double dip with an 11-3 victory in game two.
 
The setback in the opener snapped a 10-game road win streak for the Braves (27-9, 23-6 PBC) who have now dropped three consecutive games for the first time since April 16-19, 2019. Flagler (14-20, 13-15) has now captured four of the last five matchups in the series with the Black & Gold.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 6 The Saints loaded the bases with their first four at-bats, and pushed their lead out to a pair of runs minutes later on Chase Carney's RBI single to the gap in left field. Jaiden Warde followed with a sacrifice fly, and John Fiorenza padded the lead out to 5-0 on a 2-run double down the left field line.
TOP 9 The Braves used a costly wild pitch to cut into a 5-1 deficit in the top of the last frame, and then made it a 5-3 game on Grant Elliott's one-out RBI single. UNCP moved two runners into scoring position on River Ryan's groundout, but Flagler reliever Noah Allen slammed the door on the rally when he induced a game-ending flyout in the next at-bat.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 3 Flagler used two free passes and a single to load the bases with its first three at-bats, and took the lead for good on Adam Mitchell's 2-run single up the middle moments later. UNCP starter Darren Bowen regained his composure and struck out the next two batters, but Chase Carney pushed the lead out to four runs on a 2-run single with two outs showing. Matthew Burke brought Carney racing home on a single with the next at-bat.
BOT 6 The Saints sent 10 batters to the plate in a 6-run inning that eventually gave the hosts an 11-3 advantage. Jake Kaufman got the scoring started on a sac fly with none gone, and Myles Colangelo (double) and Chase Carney (single) capped the scoring with run-scoring at-bats.
