Volleyball Finishes Off Season Sweep Of Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit better than .300 at the net and tacked up 13 blocks on the way to finishing off a season sweep of I-95 rival Francis Marion with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 26-14) victory over the Patriots on Tuesday evening inside the Smith University Center.

The result snapped a two-game skid for the Braves (6-5, 6-5 PBC), while also giving the Black & Gold its first season sweep of the Patriots since the 2015 campaign. It was the second-straight loss for Francis Marion (3-6, 3-6) who had its four-game series home win streak stopped as well.

Tuesday's triumph also marked the first road win of the season for UNCP, and effectively put a six-match road losing streak to an end.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-22 The Patriots tacked up three-straight points and eventually forged a 14-9 lead following a block by Kayla Arthur, but the Braves answered with a 10-3 run to swing the momentum. The hosts used a late kill to pull to within two points, 24-22, but a Kaila Crowder kill finished it off for the Black & Gold.
SET 2 I 25-16 UNCP hit .500 in the second set and committed just one hitting error on the way to a lopsided victory. The visitors trailed 4-3 early on, but eventually reeled off eight-straight points and never looked back. The Patriots rallied late to close to within four points, 18-14, but the Braves posted seven of the set's final nine points to grab all of the momentum.
SET 3 I 26-24 The final set of the night featured 14 tie scores and three lead changes, but UNCP tacked up the final two points to grab the clutch road win. A kill from Kaila Crowder gave the visitors a 25-24 edge, and an attack error by the Patriots proved to be the final dagger.
