Columbus State Ousts No. 26 Baseball From NCAA Southeast Regional

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Sixth-seeded Columbus State pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to provide more than enough offense for an effective outing by right-hander Devin Dudal, and the Cougars advanced through to Saturday at the NCAA Southeast Regional with an 8-2 victory over the 26th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team.
 
The setback officially snapped the lid on the 2021 campaign, as well as the Peach Belt Conference era, for the Braves (29-15) who made history this season by capturing the program's first-ever conference regular season title. Friday's setback marked the sixth meeting this season between the Black & Gold and the Cougars (30-15) who will now face the loser of Saturday afternoon's winner's bracket matchup between 11th-ranked Mount Olive and 16th-ranked Wingate.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 David Meadows (walk) and Dane Bullock (hit by pitch) reached in consecutive at-bats to start the frame for the Cougars, who eventually took the lead for good on a one-out RBI single off the bat of Matthew McDade. Connor Kirley's RBI single up the middle with the next at-bat made gave Columbus State a multi-run cushion.
