GREENVILLE, S.C. –  A runner-up finish at the Columbia (S.C.) College Akiah McMillian Invitational on Saturday has helped Jack Phieffer earn Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week honors, league officials announced Monday. 
 
A Southport native, Phieffer covered the 8K course at the Par Tee Golf Center in 25:35.3 to cruise to a runner-up finish among the field's 96 runners. The result helped pace the men's squad to a second-place finish as a team as well, which marked the best result for the squad since the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championships. 
 
Saturday's performance marked just the second top-5 finish for Phieffer in his three seasons with the Black & Gold. 
 
The Black & Gold will have its final tune up before the Conference Carolinas Championships on October 22 when it travels to Huntsville, Ala., for the UAH Invitational. The race is set to begin at 8:45 a.m. at John Hunt Park.
