Soccer Powers Past Southern Wesleyan In Regular Season Finale

CENTRAL, S.C. – Naomi Fountain's goal in the fifth minute proved to be all the offense the UNC Pembroke soccer team would need, but the Braves added five more scores in the second half to fuel a rout of home-standing Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Childs Field.

It was the school record-breaking ninth road win of the season for the Black & Gold (14-2-1, 10-1-1 CC) who finished the regular season campaign on the better end of a 42-4 goal differential against Conference Carolinas competition. It was the fourth-straight loss for the Warriors (3-12-1, 2-9-1) who have now been outscored 10-1 in two all-time meetings with UNCP.

SCORING SUMMARY
5' Anna Grossheim laced a pass through the SWU defense and to the feet of Naomi Fountain who connected on a blast past Amanda Magnin to get the scoring started.
47' Anna Grossheim took control of a loose ball near midfield and hit a near-perfect pass to a streaking Naomi Fountain in the attacking third. Fountain one-touched a pass to the goal mouth, and Abigail Lowry finished with a clean header inside the near post.
76' Anna Grossheim sparked a flurry of fast-happening goals in the 76th minute when her back door corner kick found the head of Ilaya Bigford who snuck a ball inside the far post.
77' A foul inside the 18-yard box lent itself to a penalty kick attempt from Kennedy Rucker, and the senior made good on the opportunity by hitting a shot to the low right side that escaped a diving Amanda Magnin.
79' Devyn Hart collected a loose ball near midfield and hit a quick pass up the far sideline to a wide-open Anna Grossheim who dribbled into the penalty area before firing a shot through Amanda Magnin.
85' Anna Grossheim handed off a pass to Ashleigh Harris who out-juked a Warriors defender in the penalty area, and then connected on a no-doubter into the back of the net.
