Wrestling Steamrolls Bluefield State, Davis & Elkins

| By:
ELKINS, W.Va. – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team recorded 16 bonus-point victories, including 13 pins, to roll to a pair of victories at the Davis & Elkins Tri-Meet inside D&E's McDonnell Center. The Braves opened the day with a 49-3 rout of Bluefield State, and closed out the trip to northwest West Virginia with a lopsided 49-6 win over the host Senators.

The Braves (6-1) amassed 53 takedowns and six near falls across the two matches to improve to 4-1 away from Pembroke this season. Bluefield State (2-1) absorbed their first setback of the season, while Davis & Elkins (1-5) closed out the event with a split after picking up their first win of the season against the Big Blue. Both teams are led by former UNCP wrestlers Blaze Shade (BSU) and Andrew Colborn (D&E).

Bluefield State got on the board first with a 6-2 decision by Luke Roberts in the opening match of the afternoon, but the Braves closed out the dual with nine-straight individual victories. Four wrestlers – Logan Robinson (133 pounds), Cody Williams (141), Caleb Grau (165) and Logan Hoffman (174) – all posted wins via pin, while two other Braves – Jake Piccirilli (149) and Ryan Walker (285) – picked up forfeit victories.

The story was much of the same in the Black & Gold's rout of Davis & Elkins. The Senators lit up the scoreboard first with Nicholas Cottone's first-period pin at 125 pounds, but the rest of the dual was wrapped in Black & Gold. Five Braves – Robinson, Joshua Feliz (141), Piccirilli, Will Lowery (157) and Shylik Scriven (184) – all tallied pins, while Bryce Walker (197) and Massimo Sullivan (285) triumphed via major decision.

The Braves will be back in action again this weekend when they make the long trip to Indianapolis, Ind., to compete in the 43rd Annual Midwest Classic inside the University of Indianapolis's Nicoson Hall.
