Wrestling Announces Schedule For 2026-27 Season

October 15, 2026

PEMBROKE - Seven home dates, as well as road trips to West Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, and Pennsylvania, highlight the 2026-27 UNC Pembroke wrestling scheduled released Thursday by head coach Othello "O.T." Johnson.

Fans can get an early look at the team on Tuesday, October 20 at 5 p.m. when the Braves hit the mat for their annual Black & Gold intra-squad event as part of Homecoming week at UNCP. Admission to that event, as well as all home dual meets, is free.

The Braves will officially kick off the new season on November 1 when they travel to West Virginia to compete in the Glenville State Pioneer Open

UNCP will lift the lid on its home portion of the schedule on November 7 as they host the PJ Smith Pembroke Classic. The event was renamed in 2024 from the Pembroke Classic, and will be the 45th annual edition of the event. Wrestling action is slated to begin at 9 a.m. Admission to the PJ Smith Pembroke Classic is $10 for the day. Students with a valid student ID are free.

The Black & Gold will be in action for their first home dual meet on November 10, as they take on Emmanuel and Newberry in Conference Carolinas duals.

The Braves will hit the road to Tennessee on December 12 for the Rocky Top Duals, followed by a trip to Indianapolis for the 47th Annual Midwest Classic. The two-day event will take place December 19 and 20 at Nicoson Hall. The squad will then trek to Pennsylvania on January 10 to take on Felician, Salem, and host-school Pitt-Johnstown in the Mountain Cat Duals.

The Black & Gold will return home January 22 for a Conference Carolinas dual against Lincoln Memorial, before hosting the Braves Open on January 23.

The Conference Carolinas Championship is slated for either February 13 or 14, and will be hosted by the South Division regular-season champion, while the NCAA Super Region II Tournament will be held at Montevallo on February 27, where the top three finishers in each weight class will advance to the National Championships on March 12 and 13 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
