No. 15 Men’s Basketball Holds Off Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK – The 15th-ranked UNC Pembroke men's basketball team shot better than 58 percent from the field in the second half and put together a game-changing 16-6 run midway through the stanza to thwart upset-minded Lees-McRae, 82-74, on Saturday inside LMC's Williams Gymnasium.

It was the fourth-straight victory for the Braves (11-1, 4-1 CC) who have now rung up 17-straight regular season road wins dating back to last season. Lees-McRae (4-8, 1-5) has now dropped six of their last eight outings, and have now fallen on the wrong end of five-straight meetings with the Black & Gold.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
UNCP shot just 34.5 percent from the field in the opening half, but countered the shooting effort with a 21-14 advantage in the rebounding column, as well as an 8-for-10 performance at the free throw line. The stanza was highlighted by four tie scores and as many lead changes, but it was a free throw from Elijah Cobb with two seconds left that allowed the visitors to take a 33-32 lead into the intermission.
2ND HALF
The Braves benefited from 13 turnovers by Lees-McRae in the second half, but it was a momentum-changing run midway through that proved to fuel the final outcome. The Bobcats scored six-straight points to eventually built a 52-46 advantage following a 3-pointer from Timon Jones with 12:16 to play. However, pair of free throws from Jajuan Carr on the other end of the court sparked the visitors on a 16-4 run over the next 2-1/2 minutes that put the Black & Gold out in front for good.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Sophomore Bradlee Haskell matched a career high with four 3-pointers (8 attempts) on the way to finishing his afternoon with a game-best 18 points to go along with five rebounds and a trio of steals.
+ Redshirt freshman Cortez Marion-Holmes totaled 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and added a game-high 11 rebounds to notch his second career double-double.
