Women’s Basketball Eases Past Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team matched a season-high with eight 3-pointers and turned in a 16-for-19 performance for the free throw line to fuel a 60-44 victory over Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon inside LMC's Williams Gymnasium.

Lees-McRae (0-10, 0-6) has now dropped 13-straight games dating back to last season, and fell to 0-4 at home this season with Saturday's result as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
The Braves aided a fast start with an 8-for-10 tally from the free throw line and finished the opening period clinging to a 15-11 advantage. Zaria Clark's running layup at the 3:14 mark sparked the visitors on a quarter-concluding 9-3 run.
2ND QUARTER
UNCP tacked up eight points off of a trio of turnovers in the second stanza, and continued their near-pin point accuracy at the free throw line to inevitably lug a 33-28 lead into the break. The Bobcats led by four points, 27-23, following Dianna Spence's 3-pointer with 3:28 left, but the visitors closed out the half with a 10-1 run that saw them go 4-for-6 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers from Kalaya Hall.
3RD QUARTER
The visitors took their foot off of the gas pedal in the third period, but still managed to more-than double up the Bobcats in the frame. Lees-McRae made it a two-possession game, 39-33, following a trey from Mya Lewis at the 3:47 mark, but Kalaya Hall's 3-pointer on the other end of the court marked the first of 10-straight points by the Black & Gold that eventually allowed it to take a 49-35 advantage into the fourth quarter.
4TH QUARTER
Lees-McRae managed just a 4-for-16 clip from the field in the final period, and never really threatened down the stretch. The hosts opened the quarter with five-straight points to trim their deficit down to single digits, 49-40, with 8:13 to play, but Kelci Adams nailed down a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession to give the visitors a double-digit lead for good.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Newcomer Kalaya Hall scored a UNCP career-best 16 points on 4-for-5 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 clip from the perimeter. Hall added a pair of rebounds and one assist as well.
+ Sophomore Zaria Clark fueled an 11-point outing with a 5-for-6 showing at the free throw line. She also narrowly missed a double-double with eight boards as well.
+ Junior Kelci Adams turned in nine points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes of action. She connected on two of her four attempts from downtown in the outing, and went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
