Wrestling Falls At King In Regular Season Finale

| By:
BRISTOL, Tenn. – King registered just six takedowns and trio of near falls, but took advantage of a trio of forfeit victories to turn back the short-handed UNC Pembroke wrestling team in the regular season finale for both teams inside KU's Student Center Complex.

It was just the third loss in the last nine outings for the Braves (7-8, 5-3 SACC) who got their final tune-up of the campaign before playing host to next weekend's NCAA Super Regional II Tournament at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. The Tornado (9-7, 5-3) used Thursday's result to avenge a 25-point loss to the Black & Gold earlier this season in Louisville, Ky. It was also the fifth-straight victory for King.

The Tornado won each of the first five matches, including three via forfeit, to cruise out to a 24-0 lead on the team scoreboard before Rahsaan Vereen broke the drought for the Braves with a first-period pin in the 165-pound bout. King captured both the 174- and 184-pound matchups, before visitors closed out the night with a pair of wins.

Marcus Bell tallied a convincing 12-5 decision at 197 pounds, while Zach Shaffer needed just 76 seconds to register a pin in the heavyweight contest.
