Men’s Basketball Earns Eighth NCAA Tournament Berth

March 6, 2022

INDIANAPOLIS – The 8th-ranked and fourth-seeded UNC Pembroke men's basketball team will make its eighth appearance in the last 12 years at the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament when it takes on fifth-seeded and 25th-ranked Flagler in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday in Augusta, Ga.

The Braves (26-6) are one of two Conference Carolinas teams that earned a berth into the NCAA postseason as eighth-seeded Belmont Abbey (22-9) will take on 10th-ranked and top-seeded Augusta (28-3) in the opening round as well. The Crusaders earned the league's automatic berth with a win over the Black & Gold in Sunday's Conference Carolinas Tournament championship game.

Second-seeded and sixth-ranked Queens (28-3) will face seventh-seeded Columbus State (20-10) in one of the other two quarterfinal games, while the winner of that matchup will take on either third-seeded and seventh-ranked Lincoln Memorial (25-4) or sixth-seeded Georgia College (21-7). First-round action inside Augusta University's Christenberry Fieldhouse is set to begin on Saturday. The semifinals will take place on Sunday, while the championship game will be contested on Tuesday.

The Braves are 20-3 all-time against Flagler (23-7) in a series that dates back to the 2009-10 campaign – the first for the Saints as a member of the Peach Belt Conference. Flagler snapped a 12-game losing streak in the series with an 87-80 overtime victory in Pembroke on Jan. 20, 2021 – the last matchup between the two squads. That also quelled an 11-game home win streak for the Braves in the series.

Game times and ticket information for the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional will be announced later this week.
