Late Dingers Help No. 24 Baseball Stun Visiting Queens

PEMBROKE – The 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team logged a quartet of home runs, including Bobby Dixon's go-ahead blast with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, to stun upset-minded Queens, 11-10, and help the Braves finish off a season sweep of the Royals on Wednesday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.
 
It was the 14th home win of the season for UNCP (24-10) who trailed by three runs, 9-6, after a home run by the Royals in the top of the seventh inning. It was just the second loss in the last eight outings for Queens (21-16) who dropped a 10-8 affair to the Black & Gold at home on March 1.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 7 Bobby Dixon doubled to lead off the home half of the seventh, and UNCP cut into a 3-run deficit minutes later thanks to a 2-out RBI single from Trent Harris. A 3-run blast by Andrew Mills in the next at-bat gave the Black & Gold a 10-9 advantage heading to the eighth.
TOP 8 Nick Melton knotted the game back up for Queens when he took a 1-and-1 offering from reliever Rhett James over the fence in right field.
BOT 8 Queens reliever Jordan Briones needed just five pitches to record the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but Bobby Dixon hammered a one-strike offering from the senior over the trees in left field to provide the eventual game-winning score.
