No. 24 Baseball Halves Doubleheader With Visiting Barton

PEMBROKE – The 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team had its late-game rally stopped short on the way to a 7-4 setback in the opening game, but used a 4-run fourth inning in the nightcap to key a 5-2 victory that forged a doubleheader split with visiting Barton on Saturday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The Braves (25-11, 15-5 CC) tacked up their 21st and 22nd double-digit hit attacks of the season on the afternoon, but had their two-game win streak stopped with the early setback. Barton (20-17, 11-9) grabbed its third-straight win in the opener, but fell to 16-17 all-time at Sammy Cox Field with the game 2 result.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 5 Cody Naylor led off the frame with a solo shot to left field, and the Bulldogs eventually loaded the bases with two outs to set the table for a 2-run double from Ryan McIsaac that pushed the advantage out to 3-0.
TOP 7 Barton loaded the bases with its first three at-bats in the seventh, and took a 4-1 lead on Ryan McIsaac's sacrifice fly to right field. Tanner Halvorson followed with a 2-run double down the left field line that pushed the lead out to five runs.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 2 Barton used Jared Beebe's leadoff double to manufacture an early lead. The Bulldogs sacrificed Beebe to third base with their next at-bat, and then used a sacrifice fly from Raymond Paniagua to take a 1-0 lead.
BOT 4 UNCP loaded the bases with its first three at-bats in the fourth, and took the lead for good on Trent Harris's bases-clearing double. Spencer Faulkner's single up the middle in the next at-bat plated Harris with the 4-1 advantage for the Braves.
