No. 19 Baseball Topples Barton, Advances To Semifinals

WILSON – The second-seeded and 19th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team registered 21 hits, including five off of the bat of senior Gage Hammonds, to cruise to a 14-5 rout of eighth-seeded Barton on Saturday evening in an elimination game at the 2022 Conference Carolinas Tournament.

The win helped the Braves (38-14) match the 2013 and 2015 clubs for the second-most victories in program history, while also helping the Black & Gold move into a semifinal matchup on Sunday against the loser of Friday's late matchup between top-seeded North Greenville and fourth-seeded Mount Olive. The setback snapped the lid on the 2022 campaign for the Bulldogs (26-26).

Freshman Evan McLean (8-1) threw 107 pitches and fought off an hour-long weather delay to record his eighth win of the season for the Braves, while southpaw Chase Jernigan picked up his first collegiate save with 3-1/3 quality innings of relief. Senior lefthander Alex Hart (9-4), a first team all-conference pick, took the loss for the Bulldogs after allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits in just 2-1/3 innings on the hill.
