Volleyball Concludes Weekend At Flagler Saints Invitational

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team allowed 27 aces and committed 49 errors in two games for the final day of weekend competition at the Flagler Saints Invitational on Saturday inside Flagler Gymnasium. The Braves fell 3-1 (21-25, 33-31, 20-25, 23-25) to former Peach Belt Conference foe Flagler, and then dropped a 3-0 (17-25, 24-26, 11-25) outing against Davenport on Saturday. 
 
The weekend outcomes marks the first time since 2017 that the Black & Gold have lost their first four contests of the season. It is the second straight time that the Braves have taken a set from the Saints, and was the first overall meeting with Davenport.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 21-25 Shannon Skryd sparked the offense on the way to the scoring three straight points as UNC Pembroke trailed Flagler 17-16. The Saints had the hot hands hitting .400 at the net in the opening set and scored the final three points of the set. 
SET 2 I 33-31 A four-point scoring surge helped push the Braves out in front 14-11 with an attack error by the hosts. Flagler was forced into 14 total attack errors hitting just .049 at the net, while UNCP scored five of the last seven points of the set to claim set two. 
SET 3 I 20-25 The scored six straight points to take a convincing 13-3 lead. The Braves capped off a four-point swing with a Brianna Warren kill, but UNCP would be unable to close the gap. 
SET 4 I 23-25 The Black & Gold took a 17-16 lead with a big kill from Shannon Skryd. The Black & Gold pushed its lead out to 19-17 with blocks from Brianna Warren and Katie Pressley. However, six of the final eight points of the set went to Flagler for the final set.

MATCH SUMMARY
SET 1 I 17-25 Davenport used six straight points to establish a 18-9 lead with a service ace from Lexie Beeke. UNC Pembroke committed six attack errors and mustered a .029 hitting percentage in the opening set, while the Panthers hit .139 to take control.
SET 2 I 24-26 The Black & Gold jumped out to an early lead claiming six of the first eight points of the set. Davenport took their first lead of the set, 15-14, fueled by five straight points. UNCP hit .243 at the net during the set, but the Panthers took the lead for good with four straight points at the end of the set. 
SET 3 I 11-25 Davenport rattled off 11 straight points to take a hefty 20-5 lead hitting an impressive .346 from the net, committing just two total attack errors. The Braves struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the final set committing nine total attack errors.

The Braves will be back in action on Friday when they host the two-day UNC Pembroke Invitational at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. UNCP will take on Felician (0-3) at noon, and then face Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1) at 6 p.m. for the opening day of action.
