Bell Nets Two To Propel Soccer Past Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – A fifth-minute own goal gave the visiting UNC Pembroke soccer team all of the scoring it would need on the afternoon, but freshman Mercy Bell tallied a hat trick and four of her teammates added lone goals of their own to help the Braves cruise past Erskine, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon at Huggins Field.

It was the third-straight victory for the Braves (4-1-0, 2-0-0 CC) who moved to 3-1-0 away from Pembroke this season as well. The setback pushed the winless streak for Erskine (0-5-0, 0-2-0) out to six matches dating back to last season.

SCORING SUMMARY
5' A service into the penalty area needed no further direction for the Braves when a central defender for the Flying Fleet errantly kicked an attempted clearance just inside the near goalpost for the eventual game-winner.
12' Nicole Cook dribbled her way through a pair of Erskine defender and fed a pass to Eugenie Amidou who set her feet and fired a one-hopper to the far post from 25 yards away that found its way into the back of the net.
17' Chiara Coppin's booming punt to the midfield stripe took a couple of bounces before Mercy Bell headed the ball to her feet, out-sprinted the Erskine backline and got the better end of a 1 v. 1 situation with Erskine netminder Kaylie Hayes.
39' Anna Grossheim picked the pocket of an Erskine midfielder on an attack attempt and found a streaking Zion Sellers down the far sideline. Sellers wasted no time in a firing off a shot that deflected off of Erskine goalkeeper Kaylie Hayes and inside the near post.
41' Maddison Oxendine proved to be the benefactor on a set piece, getting the final touch on a pinball situation before hitting a shot to the top shelf to close out the scoring in the first half.
50' Anna Grossheim's corner kick service into the penalty area was redirected off the far post and into the net by Mercy Bell to get the scoring started in the second stanza.
551'1' Mercy Bell struck again less than two minutes later when she won a footrace to a loose ball outside the penalty area and connected on a shot across the goal mouth.
62' Zion Sellers found her way into space down the near sideline and lofted a service into the box to the waiting head of Freya Lodge Whitham who capped the scoring on the day with a shot inside the near post.
