Harris Nets Hat Trick As Soccer Rumbles Past King

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke soccer team registered its most shots in a match in nearly a decade and got goals from five different players, including a hat trick from redshirt junior Ashleigh Harris, on the way to a 8-0 rout of visiting King on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

It was the fifth-straight victory for the Braves (6-1-0, 3-0-0 CC) who have now registered 27 unanswered goals against Conference Carolinas opponents dating back to late October of last season. The result marked the first loss in nearly two weeks for the Tornado (1-4-2, 1-1-2) who fell to 0-2-1 away from Bristol, Tenn., this season.

SCORING SUMMARY
12' Morgan Hill collected a loose ball at midfield, dribbled around a defender and found Ashleigh Harris just inside the penalty area. Harris touched the ball through a defender's legs and skipped a ball underneath a diving Kristal Garcia and into the back of the net.
19' Eugenie Amidou picked the pocket of a King defender just outside the penalty area and, after a quick give-and-go with Abigail Lowry, toughed her way through a pair of defenders before firing a shot to the left side.
21' Zion Sellers fired off a quality shot to the far post that was initially saved by Kristal Garcia, but Ashleigh Harris charged into the penalty area with the follow up and connected on a shot inside the far post.
52' Mercy Bell connected on a well-placed pass to a streaking Naomi Fountain in King's defensive third, and Fountain easily out-raced a lone defender and got the best of a 1 v. 1 situation with goalkeeper Kristal Garcia.
59' Mercy Bell's pass through the center of the penalty area was initially redirected by Zion Sellers, but a King defender took care of the rest and punched a shot into the back of her own net.
60' The Black & Gold stretched its lead 25 seconds later when Zion Sellers found Eugenie Amidou on the far side of the pitch, Amidou got off a pass to the center of the goal mouth, and Mercy Bell hit paydirt on a one-timer to the left side.
87' Ashleigh Harris took on the defense by herself, dribbling across the top of the 18-yard box before setting and firing a shot inside the left post.
90' A direct kick from 25 yards away was all that Nona Borden would need to net her first career goal. Borden took a couple of steps before drilling an absolute missile into the goal mouth and off of the hands of Kristal Garcia.
