Volleyball Falls In Five Sets At Chowan

MURFREESBORO – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team registered 67 kills but committed 31 attack errors and fell 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-17, 10-15) to Chowan in a five set thriller on Wednesday evening at Bob Burke Court.  
 
The setback for the Braves (13-13, 7-5 CC) marked the first loss in the 14-match history to Chowan and fall to 5-7 when playing away from Pembroke. The Hawks (5-19, 4-10 CC) snapped a four-game losing skid and marked their second five set victory of the season.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 23-25 Chowan used a 5-0 scoring run to take a 13-8 lead following a kill from Ellie Middleton. UNC Pembroke tied the score at 17 apiece after a service ace from Katie Pressley, but the Hawks hit .135 from the net while the Braves hit .083 from the net and the hosts stayed in control of the opening set. 
SET 2 I 25-20 UNCP pushed their lead out to 12-8 off of an Emma Fraidenburg kill. Chowan trimmed its deficit back to 20-19 with a kill from Haydon Ahlers, but the Braves hit a match-best .486 from the net and scored four of the final four points of the set. 
SET 3 I 19-25 Chowan got a quick start and used a kill from Ellie Middleton to lead 12-7 in the third set. UNC Pembroke struggled offensively hitting just .095 from the net, but chipped away at its deficit, 19-14, following a CU attack error. The Braves fended off a match point with a kill from Ruby Countryman, but Chowan's Ryan Nored ended the set with a kill. 
SET 4 I 25-17 An early 5-0 scoring surge capped off with a kill from Ruby Countryman gave UNCP a 7-2 advantage. The Braves pushed their score out to 17-9 after blocks from Emma Fraidenburg and Katelyn West and sent it to a deciding set after limiting Chowan to a .053 hitting percentage during the frame.
SET 5 I 10-15 Chowan scored five of the first six points and picked up a 7-3 lead after a UNCP error. Abby Peduzzi's kill cut the Braves deficit back to 10-9, but the Hawks closed out the match on a 5-1 run.
