Football Gets Shutout Victory Over Glenville State On Homecoming

PEMBROKE - The UNC Pembroke football team recorded a season-high 619 total yards on offense and used a team effort on defense to help the Braves to a 49-0 victory against Glenville State on Saturday at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.
 
The victory for the Braves (6-3, 5-3 MEC) marks the third consecutive win and improve to 14-2 when playing on homecoming, including winning the last eight. The setback for the Pioneers (4-4, 3-4 MEC) snapped a two-game winning streak and fall to 1-5 all-time against UNCP.

HOW IT HAPPENED
2ND QUARTER
UNC Pembroke's defense held Glenville State's offense at the goal line on four straight plays to take over at their own one-yard line. The Braves used a 59-yard pass from Colin Johnson to Trey Dixon to get to the Glenville State 12-yard line. Johnson found an open Malik Tobias for a gain of 14-yards, followed by a seven-yard rush up the middle from Johnson for a touchdown. UNCP 7, GSU 0
 
Colin Johnson completed a nine-yard pass to Sam Dunn, but JaQuan Kelly broke free on the second play of the drive and ran the ball into the end zone for a 78-yard touchdown. UNCP 14, GSU 0
 
Sincere Baines rushed up the middle for a gain of three-yards and Colin Johnson completed a pass down field to EJ Gatling for a gain of 11-yards. Baines split the defense on the next two plays for a gain of 18-yards, and Johnson and Diaz Alexander connected for a 35-yard touchdown pass. UNCP 21, GSU 0
3RD QUARTER
Colin Johnson rushed to the left on the second play of the half for a gain of 13-yards. Johnson connected with the hands of Malik Tobias deep down field for a 52-yard touchdown.  UNCP 28, GSU 0
4TH QUARTER
The Braves marched down the field to end the third quarter and started the fourth quarter with a 17-yard run up the middle from JaQuan Kelly. Kelly danced around the defense and used a 10-yard run for a touchdown. UNCP 35, GSU 0
 
UNCP's defense picked up a big stop of the Pioneers on a 4th and 17 at the UNC Pembroke 17-yard line. Colin Johnson completed a 50-yard pass to Jayden Smith to get into the GSU territory. Johnson followed it up with a 25-yard pass to Malik Tobias in the end zone. UNCP 42, GSU 0
 
Sincere Baines cruised through the defense with a gain of 20-yards on the first play of the drive. Baines rushed down the right sideline for a gain of 10-yards to setup Colin Johnson for a 38-yard touchdown pass to Malik Tobias. UNCP 49, GSU 0
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Colin Johnson went 15-for-24 on pass completions and threw for 336-yards along with four touchdowns. He also ran 14 times for 41-yards and one touchdown. 
+ JaQuan Kelly finished the contest with 14 carries for 141-yards with a pair of touchdowns. 
+ Malik Tobias caught six passes for 146-yards and three touchdowns. 
+ Sean Hill logged seven solo tackles and two tackles for a loss of two yards. Malik McKinzie and Raydarius Freeman each added five tackles.  
NOTABLES
+ The Braves have now recorded consecutive shutouts for the first time in program history. 
+ UNCP is outscoring their opponents 154-7 in their last three contests. That margin of victory marks the best performance over a three week streak in program history. 
+ The Black & Gold limited Glenville State to just 45-yards rushing which marked a season low for the Pioneers. GSU averaged 134.7 rushing yards coming into Saturday's contest. 
+ UNC Pembroke registered 619 total yards of offense during Saturday's shutout. The 619-yards is the best on the season.
