Volleyball Downs King In Second Round Of Conference Tournament

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit an impressive .351 from the net and limited King to just 17 kills on the way to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-18) victory over the Tornado on Sunday in the second round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The Braves (19-13) registered seven aces and six blocks during Sunday's victory and advance to the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The setback for the Tornado (11-17) snapped a two game winning streak and conclude the season with a 4-8 record when playing on the road.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-13 UNC Pembroke got a quick start and took a 14-1 lead following a Ruby Countryman kill. King scored five straight points to cut its deficit back to 19-9, but the Braves hit .393 from the net and closed out the set on a 6-4 run.
SET 2 I 25-9 The Braves were firing on all cylinders and took an extensive 15-2 advantage with a kill from Ruby Countryman. A UNCP attack error cut the Tornado deficit back to 16-4, but UNCP hit a match-high .480 from the net and won nine of the final 14 points in the set.
SET 3 I 25-18 An Abby Peduzzi kill gave UNC Pembroke an 11-7 lead early in the set. UNC Pembroke went on a 9-1 run to take a 23-11 lead after a Katelynn Swain service ace. King fought off five straight match points, but a kill from Vanja Przulj was all that it took for UNCP to win the match.
