Volleyball Moves To Championship, Outlasts Mount Olive

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit .205 from the net and had three players with double-digit kills on the way to a 3-2 (25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 21-25, 15-13) victory over Mount Olive in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Saturday inside the North Charleston Athletic Center. 
 
The outcome for the Braves (21-13) marks the second straight victory over Mount Olive and moves UNCP into its second consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship game. The Trojans (20-11) recorded nine service aces and 10 blocks during Saturday's match.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-21 Mount Olive took a quick 5-1 lead in the opening set, but a 7-0 scoring run gave UNC Pembroke an 8-5 lead. The Braves took a 17-8 lead with a kill from Abby Peduzzi to cap off a 9-1 UNCP run. The Trojans put together five straight points to cut their deficit back to 18-6, but the Braves closed out the set on a 7-5 surge to take the opening set. 
SET 2 I 25-17 UMO used seven consecutive points to take a slight 10-8 lead early in the set following a Morgan Prots service ace. UNCP hit a match-high .304 from the net and went on a 8-0 run to push their lead out to 22-16.
SET 3 I 19-25 A kill from Katelyn Landis tied the score at 7 apiece, but Mount Olive would take a 13-11 lead after winning five points in a row. UNCP struggled to get the offense going hitting .176 from the net, as the Trojans hit .300 from the net and took an 22-15 lead following a 8-1 scoring run. 
SET 4 I 21-25 The Braves picked up an early 10-5 lead after capitalizing on a UMO attack error. Ruby Countryman pushed the UNCP lead out to 17-13 with a solo block, but an 8-0 Mount Olive run gave the Trojans a 21-17 lead. UNC Pembroke worked its deficit back to 23-20, but Mount Olive won two of the final three points to send it to a deciding set. 
SET 5 I 15-13 A kill from Katie Pressley gave UNCP a 7-4 lead in the final set. Kate Carter and Kaitlyn Landis teamed up for a block to tie the score at 13 apiece, but a Vanja Przulj kill and service ace sealed the deal for the Braves.
