Volleyball Stays Perfect On Opening Day Of Cedarville Invitational

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit .191 at the net against Glenville State and cruised to a 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15 victory in the opening match of the Cedarville Invitational on Friday inside the Callan Athletic Center. UNCP hit .203 from the net against Cedarville in the evening portion of the invitational and stayed perfect after a 21-25, 27-25, 25-23 victory to wrap up the first day of action.
 
It was the first meeting between Glenville State and Cedarville with the Braves. Vanja Przulj logged a double-double in the opening match with 14 kills and 12 digs, while newcomer Abby Peduzzi picked up her first career double-double against Cedarville with 10 kills and 12 digs.

SET 1 I 25-19 UNC Pembroke hit an impressive .325 from the net in the opening set and took a 17-13 lead after a Vanja Przulj kill. Glenville State chipped away at its deficit, 19-17 after a kill from Rita Kelly, but the Braves won the final five points of the set to take the opening set.
SET 2 I 25-21 Glenville State took control of the set early and used a 7-2 run to lead 12-7 off of a Malerie Ross kill. Katelynn Swain's kill polished off a six-point scoring surge for UNCP to knot the score at 15 apiece. The Braves took the second set after winning four of the final five points to take a two set advantage. 
SET 3 I 20-25 The Pioneers scored seven straight points and took an early 7-2 advantage. UNCP rallied off 10 points to take a 16-13 lead off of a Vanja Przulj service ace. GSU responded with five consecutive points to take a slight lead, and then closed out the set scoring the final five points. 
SET 4 I 25-15 Glenville State took a slight 12-11 lead after a service ace from Malerie Ross. The Braves put together seven straight points to give them an 18-12 lead with blocks from Emma Fraidenburg and Ruby Countryman. GSU tried to start a rally, but UNCP finished off the match on a four-point streak to close out the match.

SET 1 I 21-25 Cedarville hit .393 from the net in the opening set and used a kill from Talia Felton to take an early 9-3 advantage. UNC Pembroke hit game-best .480 from the net and trimmed their deficit back to 22-20 after a kill from Emma Fraidenburg, but the Yellow Jackets scored three of the final four points to take the opening set. 
SET 2 I 27-25  The Braves used a three-point scoring surge to put their lead out to 14-13, but the Yellow Jackets responded with a trio of their own points to trail just 14-13. UNCP tied the score at 21 apiece after a kill from Katelynn Swain, and closed out the set winning six of the final eight points. 
SET 3 I 25-23 UNC Pembroke jumped out to a quick 10-6 lead after an attack error from Cedarville. The hosts went on a 5-1 scoring run to tie the score at 21 apiece, but a pair of kills from Ruby Countryman gave set three to UNCP.
SET 4 I 25-17 A 6-0 scoring advantage gave the Black & Gold an early 10-4 lead. The Braves hit .219 from the net and used a kill from Emma Fraidenburg to push the lead out to 16-9. The Yellow Jackets picked up a block from Madelyn Hensley to stay in the match, 22-17, but UNCP finished the match off winning the final three points.

The Braves will close out weekend competition in Ohio on Saturday when they face Palm Beach Atlantic at 11:30 a.m. inside the Callan Athletic Center. UNCP will then face Shepherd at 4:30 p.m. for their final match of the Cedarville Invitational.
