Volleyball Knocks Off Barton In Five Set Thriller

WILSON – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit a match-best .615 from the net in the final set and registered nine total service aces on the way to a 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 15-7) victory against Barton on Tuesday evening inside the Wilson Gymnasium.
 
Tuesday victory for the Braves (8-7, 3-2 CC) marked the sixth straight victory against Barton and the third straight victory when playing in Wilson. The Bulldogs (4-8, 0-4 CC) have now lost their last five contests and are 3-4 when playing at home.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 20-25 Barton hit .407 from the net and took a 9-5 lead after a an error from UNC Pembroke. The Braves cut their deficit back to 13-11 off of a kill from Katelyn West, but the Bulldogs never relinquished the lead. 
SET 2 I 25-19 The Braves jumped out to an early 9-3 lead after scoring five consecutive points. The Bulldogs used a 4-0 scoring surge to cut their deficit back to 23-19, but UNCP took care of the final two points for the set.  
SET 3 I 25-22 Hope Turbyfill's service ace capped off a three-point scoring run for UNC Pembroke and gave the Braves a 9-5 lead. Audrey Earp's kill knotted the score at 17 apiece but a Katelyn West kill gave UNCP the lead for good. 
SET 4 I 21-25 Kyleigh Coghlan's service ace gave the Braves a 7-4 lead, but the Bulldogs knotted the score at 9 apiece after a kill from Allison Gambill. UNCP struggled offensively hitting just .054 from the net while BC hit .344 from the net as Barton scored four of the final five points to send it to a deciding set. 
SET 5 I 15-7 Barton scored four straight points to take a slight 6-5 lead, but then a kill from Aubree Schrubb tied the score at 7. UNC Pembroke hit .615 from the net in the set and score the final eight points of the match.
