Volleyball Sweeps Converse

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team registered 53 kills and hit .230 from the net to cruise to a 3-0 (25-19, 28-26, 25-21) victory over visiting Converse on Friday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
The victory for the Braves (9-7, 4-2 CC) marked the third straight victory of the season and improve to 3-1 when playing in Pembroke. The setback for the Valkyries (3-10, 2-3 CC) have lost their last two contests and fall to 5-11 all-time against UNCP.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-19 UNC Pembroke opened the match on a 5-0 scoring run to take an early lead capped off with a kill from Katelyn West. The Braves scored four-straight points to extend their lead late in the set, but Converse stayed in the set and trailed just 23-19 after a UNCP attack error.
SET 2 I 28-26 Converse used a 5-1 scoring surge to take a 13-8 advantage after a kill from Ariel Bryant. Three straight points from UNCP knotted the score at 17 apiece, but the Valkyries regained a 21-17 lead after scoring four consecutive points. Both teams fended off set points, but the Braves used back-to-back kills to take the set.   
SET 3 I 25-21 The Black & Gold got a quick start to the set taking an early 5-0 lead following a service ace from Vanja Przulj. Converse hit a match-best 343 from the net and tied the score at 14 apiece after a kill from Evelyn Fitz. UNCP closed out the match on a 10-4 run to capture the final set.
