Volleyball Falls In Five Sets At King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King hit .227 from the net and recorded 10 blocks, while the UNC Pembroke volleyball team was limited to .179 hitting as the Tornado defeated the Braves 3-2 (25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 19-25, 15-8) on Saturday afternoon inside the Student Center Complex. 
 
The setback for the Braves (11-16, 8-7 CC) marked the first loss to King in the five-game series and fall to 4-7 when playing on the road. The Tornado (8-10, 6-8 CC) snapped a two-game skid and are now 3-4 when playing at home.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 22-25 King hit .240 from the net and took an early 9-7 lead following a UNC Pembroke attack error. The Braves tied the score at 10 apiece winning the next three points, and would eventually take a 17-15 advantage via a service ace from Karagyn Durco. The Tornado closed the set on an 10-5 surge highlighted by a 4-0 run to take the opening set. 
SET 2 I 24-26 The Braves got a quick start fueled by an 8-1 run to lead 10-5 following an attack error from King. UNCP padded its lead, 19-16, but King put together a 9-3 run to tie the score at 22 apiece. The Braves won the next two points, but the hosts held off set point and won the final four points of the set. 
SET 3 I 25-21 UNCP hit .237 from the net and took a 13-7 lead with an Anaya Carter service ace. The Braves went on a 7-3 run to extend their lead out to 20-10 via a Precious Daley kill. King worked its deficit back to 24-21, but Katelyn West's kill ended the set. 
SET 4 I 25-19 UNC Pembroke hit a match-best .300 from the net and scored the first four points of the set capped off with blocks from McKenna Hayes and Precious Daley. King tied the score at six, but the Braves went on a run and eventually took a 19-14 advantage with an Abby Peduzzi kill. King worked its deficit back to 22-19, but UNCP won the final three points to send the match to a deciding fifth set. 
SET 5 I 8-15 A Ruby Countryman kill locked the score at 6, but King put together a 7-1 run to lead 13-7. The hosts hit .273 from the net during the set and limited UNCP to just .045 hitting, as the Tornado won two of the final three points of the set.
