Football Stays Hot, Downs Frostburg State On Senior Day

PEMBROKE - The UNC Pembroke football team limited visiting Frostburg State to just 125 total offensive yards to fuel a 58-17 victory for the Braves on Saturday afternoon at Grace P. Johnson Stadium for senior day. 
 
The Braves (5-5, 5-3 MEC) have won their last four home contests and finish the season 4-1 when playing in Pembroke. The setback for the Bobcats (6-4, 4-4 MEC) marks the fourth straight loss this season and are now 3-2 when playing on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Que Kennedy ran the opening kickoff back 14 yards to start the UNC Pembroke offensive drive on their own 21-yard line. Sincere Baines broke through the middle for a gain of 12-yards following by a 13-yard pass completion from Colin Johnson to Jo Hayes. Johnson shuffled through the defense for a gain of 18-yards to set up for a Johnson pass to Hayes for a 33-yard touchdown. UNCP 7, FSU 0
 
Jordan Marcucci returned the kickoff for a 92-yard touchdown. UNCP 7, FSU 7
 
The UNCP defense stopped the Bobcats on a fourth down to take over on downs at their own 47-yard line. JaQuan Kelly ran the ball for the first two plays highlighted by a 21-yard rush down the left side of the field. The Braves continued to march down the field, but had to settle for a 25-yard field goal from Jackson Hills. UNCP 10, FSU 7
2ND QUARTER
Colin Johnson completed a short pass to Jo Hayes who ran for 58-yards, followed by Johnson pass to an open Jayden Smith for a 15-yard touchdown. UNCP 17, FSU 7
 
The Braves defense forced the Bobcats to punt where UNCP started at the 50-yard line. JaQuan Albright started the drive with a seven-yard rush down the left side of the field. Albright caught a pass from Colin Johnson for a gain of 12-yards, followed by a 13-yard run through the defense from Johnson. Sincere Baines broke free from the defense for a 21-yard run while led to a two-yard pass from Albright to Jo Hayes. UNCP 23, FSU 7
 
Frostburg State took over on downs at their own 42-yard line. Myles Fulton completed a pass in the middle of the field to Trashaun Timmons for a gain of 21-yards followed by a completion to Jordan Marcucci for 16-yards. The Bobcats made good on a 40-yard field goal attempt from Harrison Fritz to end the quarter. UNCP 23, FSU 10

3RD QUARTER
UNC Pembroke started its first offensive drive of the half on their of 45-yard line. Que Kennedy caught a pass from Colin Johnson for a 16-yard gain, followed by an 18-yard run from Sincere Baines. Johnson connected with Jayden Smith for a seven-yard touchdown. UNCP 30, FSU 10
 
Jordan Marcucci returned the kickoff for 86-yards to start the Bobcats drive on the UNC Pembroke three-yard line. Amari N'namdi-Hall ran to the left for a gain of two-yards followed by a short touchdown pass from Myles Fulton to Trashaun Timmons. UNCP 30, FSU 17
 
Colin Johnson rushed to the left for 12-yards then completed a pair of 16-yard passes to Jo Hayes. JaQuan Albright ran for eight-yards followed by a nine-yard touchdown run from Johnson. UNCP 37, FSU 17
4TH QUARTER
Frostburg State started to drive towards the end of the third quarter, but Marquis Raspberry intercepted a Myles Fulton pass to give UNCP the ball. The Braves would turn the ball over on downs following an intentional grounding call where the Bobcats started their drive on the UNCP 47-yard line. Jamae Blank intercepted a Myles Fulton pass for a 50-yard touchdown for the Braves. UNCP 44, FSU 17
 
FSU was intercepted on third down by Fredrick Sellars to give UNCP the ball back. Sincere Baines rushed through the middle for a gain of seven yards, followed by a deep pass from Colin Johnson to Diaz Alexander for 33-yards and a first down. Baines found the back of the endzone for a two-yard touchdown run. UNCP 51, FSU 17
 
Frostburg State ran the ball on the first play of the drive, but Laden Ford forced a fumble that was recovered by Evan Powell. Colin Johnson completed a pass to JaQuan Albright for 19-yards, followed by an eight-yard run from Johnson. Johnson found Albright for a two-yard touchdown. UNCP 26, FSU 17
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Colin Johnson completed 21-of-33 passing attempts for 288 yards and four touchdowns. The senior also ran the ball 11 times for one touchdown and 64 yards. 
+ Senior Jo Hayes caught seven passes for 157-yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior Jayden Smith also caught two passes, both of which were for touchdowns. 
+ Senior Jamae Blank logged on solo tackle and had an interception for a 50-yard touchdown. He also was responsible for two quarterback hurries. 
+ Carlo Thompson had five tackles and three tackles for a loss of eight yards.
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke limited Frostburg State to just nine first downs. The Bobcats were also held to just 125 yards of total offense. 
+ The Black & Gold tallied 232 rushing yards and 309 passing yards during Saturday's victory. 
+ The Braves have now won their last two contests against Frostburg State when playing in Pembroke. 
+ UNCP finished the 2024 season with a 4-1 record when playing in Pembroke. 
UP NEXT
The Braves will play their final game of the 2024 season on Saturday when they travel to Athens, W.Va., to face Concord. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Callaghan Stadium.
