Braves Stay Hot, Sweep IUP

PEMBROKE – 9th-ranked UNC Pembroke's bats stayed hot, and four scoreless innings from the bullpen was more than enough for the Braves to finish off the sweep of IUP with a 10-5 win Saturday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

Jonathon Jacobs (1 IP) and Chase Jernigan (3 IP) combined to allow just three hits over four scoreless innings in relief of Luke Barrow, who struck out six and scattered five hits in his five innings.

The Braves (10-0) improved to 10-2 in the all-time series with the Crimson Hawks (0-3). UNCP's 10-0 start is the best to open a season since 2015, when the Black & Gold started 11-0.
 
UNCP will be back in action Tuesday, February 20, as they host Mercy. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 1 The Braves got on the board first, using an Andrew Jenner two-run single to stake a 2-0 lead.
TOP 2 IUP answered immediately, using RBI singles from Davin Landers, Peyton Johnson, and Harrison Pontoli, as well as a sac fly from Au'Sean Owens to take a 4-2 lead.
BOT 3 Blake Hinson led off the 3rd with a single, stole second and third, and would score on a Spencer Faulkner RBI single. Kody O'Connor would score Faulkner with a double, while Jenner would score O'Connor with an RBI ground out to make it 5-5. Jake Bradley would quickly give the Braves the lead with a first-pitch blast to left center to make it 6-5 UNCP after three complete.
BOT 7 Michael Dolberry II would draw a leadoff walk, steal second, and come around to score on a Faulkner RBI double to make it 10-5.
