Sharp-Shooting Women’s Basketball Downs Elizabeth City State

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team shot 44.6 percent from the field and had four players score in double-figures on the way to a 67-55 victory against Elizabeth City State on Wednesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
The Braves (16-6) have now won their last four games and improve to 10-1 when playing in Pembroke. The setback for the Vikings (14-9) marked just the second loss in the last eight outings for the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Imani Sutton knocked down a triple to open the game and give Elizabeth City State its largest lead of the night, 3-0, just a minute into the action. UNC Pembroke used a 10-0 run to lead 10-3 after a fastbreak layup from Kalaya Hall at the 6:57 mark. The Vikings went on a 7-3 scoring surge to cut their deficit back to 12-10, but the Braves shot 46.1 percent from the floor and held an 18-12 lead after the first quarter.
2ND QUARTER
Kelci Adams and Aniah McManus each registered a fast break bucket to give UNCP a 24-16 lead with 6:49 left in the period. Elizabeth City State shot a game-high 75 percent from the floor and put together a 7-2 run to chip away at their deficit, 33-29 with 1:37 on the clock, but the Braves held a 37-31 advantage as the teams headed into the locker rooms.
3RD QUARTER
Kelci Adams made good on a 3-pointer from the top of the key to push the UNC Pembroke lead out to 40-31 just 30 seconds into the half. Elizabeth City State scored the next four points to trail 40-35, but another triple from Kelci Adams extended the UNCP lead 43-35, with four minutes left in the quarter. Both teams shot better than 35 percent from the floor, but the Braves held a 49-42 lead heading into the final stanza.
4TH QUARTER
Aniah McManus sparked the offense on a 10-2 run that stretched through five-minute mark with a fast break layup from Kalaya Hall to give the hosts a 58-46 advantage. UNCP took its largest lead of the night, 65-52, after a 3-pointer from Kelci Adams with 1:34 left to play in regulation.  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Kalaya Hall finished with a game-high 25 points. The senior had two assists, two rebounds, and two steals in 30 minutes of action.
+ Zaria Clark posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Clark added an assist, steal and block and played all 40 minutes.
+ Aniah McManus chipped in 10 points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists in 40 minutes of work, while Kelci Adams logged 11 points on highlighted by a 3-for-6 clip from the perimeter. Adams also grabbed five rebounds.
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 44.6 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from the perimeter.
+ The Braves held the lead for 94.8 percent of Wednesday's victory.
+ The Black & Gold scored 16 points in transition. UNCP registered a season-high 13 steals, highlighted by a five steal night from Aniah McManus.

+ The Braves scored 17 points from 20 turnovers.

The Braves will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Erskine to town for Think Pink Day. Fans are encouraged to wear pink. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
