Braves Drop Series Opener 9-5 To #2 North Greenville

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke faced an early 8-0 deficit, before cutting the margin in half after six innings, but couldn't muster enough of a rally on its way to dropping Game 1 of the series 9-5 to 2nd-ranked North Greenville in Conference Carolinas action Friday night at Sammy Cox Field.

The UNCP bullpen allowed just one run over 5 1/3 innings to keep the Braves in the game.

The Braves (18-6, 5-5 CC) dropped to 14-3 this year when playing at home, while the Crusaders (21-4, 9-1 CC) improved to 7-1 in road games this season.
 
The two squads will complete the series Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 2 A Brett Blomquist RBI ground out got the Crusaders on the board first, before Landon Shaw would follow with a 2-run double and come around to score on a wild pitch. Dakota Britt added a solo homer to make it 5-0.
BOT 4 Kody O'Connor led off the frame with a hit by pitch, before moving to second on Jake Bradley's two-out single. Andrew Jenner's single got under the glove of Britt allowing O'Connor and Bradley to score, before Will Hood singled Jenner home to make it an 8-3 game.
BOT 6    Joey Rezek deposited the first pitch of the inning for his second home run in as many games to cut the lead to 8-4.
