PEMBROKE – Athletic department officials at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Wednesday that they have renewed a partnership with Food Lion for the 2024-25 athletic season.
"At Food Lion, we believe no one should have to choose between dinner and rent or gas and groceries," said Kevin Durkee, Manager, Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion. "That's why we're passionate about helping end hunger in our communities. Through this annual effort, we help nourish college students who experience hunger, increasing access to nutritious food and setting students up for success."
Under the terms of the contract, the Food Lion Sack To Give Back program will begin in the fall with UNCP football. For every sack the Braves record at home, Food Lion will donate 100 meals to our neighbors in need.
"We're incredibly grateful to renew our collaboration with Food Lion and continue the successful Sack to Give Back and Score to Give More campaigns this year," said Assistant Athletics Director for External Revenue Graysen Cockerham. "These initiatives have not only strengthened our relationship with a valued partner, but also enabled us to make a meaningful impact in our community."
The Food Lion Score To Give More campaign will also be present at all home men's basketball games. For every free throw that the Black & Gold make at home this season, Food Lion will donate 100 meals to feed our neighbors in need.
Since the Food Lion Feeds program launched in 2019, Food Lion has donated over 7 million meals.
