HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Barton took what would be its largest lead of the contest, 9-4, with a jumper from Celeste Bailey four minutes into the contest. A pair of triples from Natalie Evington and bucket from Hannah Russell gave UNC Pembroke a 12-11 advantage, but a jumper from Lauren Walker put the hosts back out in front 13-12 with 2:54 remaining in the first quarter. Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the floor, but the Braves held a slight 18-17 lead heading into the second quarter.
2ND QUARTER
A layup from Stella Mollica followed by an old-fashioned three-point play from Tiana Spann pushed the UNC Pembroke lead out to 25-18 with 8:24 remaining in the half. Barton worked its deficit back to 25-22, but Kelci Adams knocked down a triple to give the Braves a 28-22 lead with just 6-1/2 minutes on the clock. The Bulldogs made it a one possession game, 28-26, with a jumper from Dasani Williamson, but UNCP outscored BC 8-5 to close out the quarter and send the teams to the locker rooms with the Braves leading 36-31.
3RD QUARTER
Stella Mollica scored the first bucket of the period and sent UNC Pembroke on an 8-4 surge capped off with a 3-pointer from Kelci Adams to give the Braves a 44-35 advantage three minutes into the half. Barton was limited to just 1-for-14 shooting from the field during the period, as UNCP put together a 10-0 run polished off with a three from Natalie Evington to extend the Braves lead out to 57-39 with two minutes remaining. A layup from Hannah Russell to end the period gave UNC Pembroke its largest lead of the night, 63-41, heading into the final stanza.
4TH QUARTER
Barton scored the first six points of the frame to work its deficit back to 63-47, but baskets from Hannah Russell and Stella Mollica padded the UNCP lead, 67-47 with seven minutes remaining in regulation. The hosts continued to chip away at their deficit, 67-53, with a 6-0 surge, but a layup from Kelci Adams closed out a 6-2 run to cushion the UNCP lead, 73-55 with 3-1/2 minutes left to play in the contest.
