Volleyball Falls To Francis Marion In Battle Of I-95

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team registered 13 service aces but hit just .085 from the net, while Francis Marion hit .211 from the net and had 10 blocks to defeat the Braves 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20) on Tuesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.  

The setback for the Braves (9-8, 6-3 CC) marked the first loss at home since Sept. 13 and have now lost three out of their last four matches. The Patriots (11-8, 9-1 CC) have now won five out of their last six matches and improve to 18-16 when playing UNCP in Pembroke.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 18-25 The match opened with UNC Pembroke taking an early lead, capitalizing on a block by Addie Decker and Deorri Gaines to score the first point. Decker continued to contribute offensively with multiple kills, including one at 3-2 and another at 13-11. Despite these efforts, Francis Marion surged ahead, with Madilyn Gartner and Allison Miller leading a series of successful plays, including a service ace by Gartner at 4-3, to build a 7-3 lead. The Patriots maintained momentum through a series of kills by Caroline Lucas and McKayla Stockwell. The set was secured at 25-18 for FMU after consecutive attack errors by the Braves. 
SET 2 I 19-25 FMU gained momentum in the second set, starting with a kill by Katie Kemp to put the Patriots ahead 2-1. UNCP responded with a series of points, including a kill by Addie Decker and a service ace by Brette Doile, leading to a 7-2 advantage. The Patriots then went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by Caroline Lucas's kill, tying the set at 8-8. The teams remained neck-and-neck until FMU pulled ahead with a kill by Camryn Faggart, making it 15-12. Despite the effort to close the gap from the Braves, FMU closed out the set 25-19, capitalizing on a ball handling error by the hosts. 
SET 3 I 25-18 After a close exchange of points early on, a pivotal service ace by Tyler Patterson at 14-15 shifted momentum in favor of the Braves. Abby Peduzzi contributed with a service ace and a kill, extending the UNCP lead to 19-15. Savannah Whaley and McKenna Hayes teamed up for a pair of consecutive blocks to send the match to a fourth set.
SET 4 I 20-25 A kill from Addie Decker knotted the score at 2-2 early in the set. Despite a service ace by Brette Doile that briefly put the Braves ahead 5-2, Francis Marion capitalized on several attack errors from UNCP to regain the lead at 8-7. Caroline Lucas was pivotal for Francis Marion, delivering critical kills that helped maintain their advantage.
