No. 19 Football Falls At North Greenville

PEMBROKE - The 19th-ranked UNC Pembroke football team struggled to get the offense going and capitalize on field position as North Greenville defeated the Braves 20-7 on Saturday afternoon at Younts Stadium.

The setback for the Braves (6-2, 3-1 CC) snapped a six-game winning streak and marked the first conference loss this season. The Trailblazers (4-3, 4-0 CC) have now won their last four games and improve to 2-1 when playing at home this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
UNC Pembroke began the first quarter receiving the kickoff, but their opening drive stalled after Tre Robinson was sacked by EJ Bradford, resulting in a loss of 11 yards. The Trailblazers capitalized on their defensive momentum, taking over possession and advancing to the UNC Pembroke 10-yard line. Despite a string of incomplete passes by Dylan Ramirez, the Trailblazers managed to score first with a 28-yard field goal by Cillian Bonner at the 9:25 mark, putting them ahead 3–0. UNCP's subsequent drive showed promise with Devyn Grant's 9-yard rush, but it ended abruptly when JaQuan Albright fumbled, recovered by North Greenville's Bryson Oliver. NGU's offense gained traction, with Deshawn Tompkins rushing effectively, though penalties hindered their progress. With a strong defensive stand, UNC Pembroke kept the score within reach, ending the quarter trailing by three points.
2ND QUARTER
The Trailblazers capitalized on a pivotal interception by Bryson Oliver at the start of the second quarter, which set up a drive culminating in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Ramirez to Eric Rasheed at the 12:12 mark. Cillian Bonner's extra point extended North Greenville's lead to 10–0. UNC Pembroke's subsequent drive saw Tre Robinson connect for a significant 27-yard gain to Joel Felder, but it ended abruptly when Tre Robinson threw an interception to Brooks Russ-Martin. As time expired in the half, North Greenville added a 20-yard field goal by Cillian Bonner, increasing their lead to 13–0.
3RD QUARTER
The third quarter saw North Greenville capitalizing on a significant play to extend their lead. After an interception by UNC Pembroke's Justin Foreman that halted an NGU drive, the Braves were unable to convert from the North Greenville 3-yard line, turning the ball over on downs after a failed rush by Tre Robinson. Shortly after, North Greenville's Dylan Ramirez connected with Ahmari Coats for a 90-yard touchdown pass at 9:19, followed by a successful extra point by Cillian Bonner, increasing their lead to 20-0. The UNCP subsequent drive showed promise with a 28-yard completion to Malik Brown, but ended with a fumble recovered by Bryson Oliver of North Greenville.
4TH QUARTER
The fourth quarter began with the Braves turning the ball over on downs after Marcus Martin's pass was broken up by North Greenville's Damon Early at the NGU 35. The NGU subsequent possession ended with a punt, as Dylan Ramirez's efforts were hampered by a penalty and a stout defense from UNC Pembroke. Marcus Martin then led the Braves on a drive that included a pivotal 10-yard rush for a first down by Martin himself. Tre Robinson later capped the drive with an 11-yard rushing touchdown at the 8:14 mark. Taylor Harris successfully converted the extra point, narrowing North Greenville's lead. Despite UNC Pembroke's defensive efforts, North Greenville maintained possession through strategic rushing, consuming the clock to seal their 20–7 victory.
