Volleyball Falls To USC Aiken, Augusta In Tri-Match

PEMBROKE – USC Aiken hist .224 from the net on the way to defeating the UNC Pembroke volleyball team 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-23) on Tuesday evening inside the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
 
UNCP closed out action on Tuesday registering 10 blocks, but fell 1-3 (25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 19-25) to Augusta in a non-conference match. 

The Braves have now lost three out of their last four contests and fall to 11-61 all-time against USC Aiken and 23-40 all-time against Augusta.

SET 1 I 25-19 The match began with a strong performance from UNC Pembroke, who took an early lead against USC Aiken. A service ace by Brette Doile gave UNCP a 4-2 lead. Despite USC Aiken's efforts, including kills from Alli Bishop and Chloe Duzenack, the Braves sustained their lead, with Alexandria Mills and Addie Decker contributing crucial points. Savannah Whaley dominated the latter stages with a series of kills, and McKenna Hayes clinched the set for UNC Pembroke at 25-19 with a final kill.
SET 2 I 20-25 In the second set, USC Aiken capitalized on service errors and attack errors by the Braves to gain an early advantage. Tyler Patterson of UNC Pembroke initiated the set with a service ace, but the team struggled to maintain momentum due to multiple errors. Chloe Duzenack and Bailey Corrigan contributed significantly to USC Aiken's offense, each securing kills that extended their team's lead. Despite a late push from UNCP highlighted by Abby Peduzzi's kill at 20-17, the Pacers sustained their lead to take the set.
SET 3 I 17-25 USC Aiken dominated the start of the third set with a strong 8-0 run, including a service ace by Sidney Hogan and multiple attack errors from the Braves. Abby Peduzzi broke the streak with a kill, marking the first point UNCP. Despite attempts to close the gap, including kills by McKenna Hayes and a service ace by Caterina Coronelli, the Braves struggled to keep pace. USC Aiken maintained their lead, as Alli Bishop and Sidney Hogan contributed key kills. Madison Fox sealed the set for USC Aiken with a final kill, ending the set 25-17.
SET 4 I 23-25 UNC Pembroke nitially surged ahead with a 4-0 run featuring three kills by Caterina Coronelli. However, USC Aiken responded with a string of points, including a service ace by Lexi Rogers, leveling the score at 4-4. The teams exchanged leads throughout the set, with Savannah Whaley contributing key kills to keep the Braves competitive. However, a late attack error from UNCP gave the final set to the Pacers to end the match.

SET 1 I 25-18 UNC Pembroke took an early 3-0 lead to start the match highlighted by kills from Abby Peduzzi and Addie Decker. The Jaguars narrowed the gap to 7-6, propelled by a service ace from Sydney Harrington. However, the Braves responded with a series of plays, including a service ace from Tyler Patterson, extending their lead to 13-11. UNCP maintained momentum with a strong performance by Savannah Whaley, whose kill pushed the score to 20-14. Despite a late push from Augusta, the Braves closed out the set at 25-18 with a final kill by Abby Peduzzi.
SET 2 I 20-25 Lauren Nelson and Layne Witherspoon led the charge with crucial kills early in the set for Augusta. Savannah Whaley sparked a short rally with three consecutive kills, cutting the UNCP deficit back to 17-16. However, the Jaguars responded with Layne Witherspoon's consistent performance, which included multiple kills down the stretch. The set concluded with a service ace by Sydney Harrington, sealing the win for Augusta.
SET 3 I 23-25 Augusta capitalized on several attack errors from the Braves, allowing them to maintain a slight edge throughout. Key contributions came from Sofiia Snitsarevych and Saavedra, who recorded multiple kills, helping Augusta to build a lead. Despite a late surge from the Braves, which included kills by Abby Peduzzi and Addie Decker, Augusta sealed the set with a block by Layne Witherspoon and Saavedra.
SET 4 I 19-25 The set featured a back-and-forth battle early on, with Saavedra contributing multiple kills for the Jaguars. The Braves briefly took the lead at 9-8 after Savannah Whaley's kill, but Augusta responded with a series of points, including a crucial kill by Nelson to go up 14-13. Augusta then capitalized on a series of attack errors from the Braves to build a 20-13 lead. The match was concluded with a decisive kill from Saavedra, sealing the set and the match for the Jaguars.
