Soccer Falls To No. 2 Seed Belmont Abbey In Conference Carolinas Championship Semifinals

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – Eli Soderberg's equalizer in the tenth-minute knotted the score at 1-1, but second-seeded Belmont Abbey would respond with two goals en route to a 3-1 win over third-seeded UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas Championship Semifinals action Friday night at Bryan Park.

Reagan Carr picked up the assist on Soderberg's goal.

The Braves (10-7-1) fell to 7-4-0 in the all-time series with the Crusaders (15-4-1), but have now dropped three of the last four matchups against Belmont Abbey.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
9' Belmont Abbey's Caroline Roche connected with Haley Long, whose centering pass found the foot of Francesca Highton eight yards out, who then buried a one-touch, left-footed strike into the back of the net to give the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead.
10' A failed corner kick clearance from Belmont Abbey found Reagan Carr, whose pass found the head of Eli Soderberg, who redirected it over the Crusader goalkeeper and into the net to provide the Braves the equalizer.
30' A Haley Long shot on goal ricocheted to the foot of Hannah Willis just in front of the net, who touched it home to give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.
46' UNC Pembroke was whistled for a handball inside the box, as Long would step up and make good on the penalty kick to stretch the lead to 3-1.
TOP BRAVES
+ Eli Soderberg logged a team-high two shots to go along with her goal.
+ Reagan Carr tallied an assist.
NOTABLES
+ Belmont Abbey held the edge in shots (15-6) and corner kicks (8-1).
