Volleyball Rallies To Defeat Ferrum On Senior Day

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit .226 from the net and registered a season-best 15 service aces to highlight a 3-1 (25-27, 27-25, 25-23, 25-13) victory over Ferrum for senior day on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 

The Braves (16-13, 13-6 CC) have now won their last four matches close out the regular season with a 10-4 record when playing in Pembroke. The Panthers (4-21, 1-17 CC) have now last their last three matches and fall to 2-10 when playing on the road this season.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-27 The opening set between UNC Pembroke and Ferrum was a closely contested battle that saw multiple lead changes. UNC Pembroke secured an early advantage with Abby Peduzzi's repeated kills. However, Ferrum responded with a series of crucial points, as Catherine Bennett's consistent kills helped them maintain pressure. A late surge from UNC Pembroke tied the score at 24-24, but Ferrum capitalized on a critical UNC Pembroke attack error, allowing them to edge out a 27-25 victory in the first set.
SET 2 I 27-25 Ferrum jumped to an early 3-0 lead with kills from Emma Powell, Harleigh Propst, and Catherine Bennett. UNC Pembroke responded with a service ace by Tyler Patterson, narrowing the deficit to 8-6. The teams exchanged points, with key contributions from McKenna Hayes and Abby Peduzzi for the Braves. A late surge saw the Braves tie the game at 23-23 after a service ace by Harleigh Propst brought Ferrum to set point. However, McKenna Hayes and Savannah Jackson delivered critical kills, pushing the Braves to a 27-25 victory, securing the set.
SET 3 I 25-23 The set saw multiple momentum shifts, with Emily Collings contributing two service aces to help build an early 5-1 lead for UNCP. However, Ferrum battled back to tie the score at 17-17 with effective play from Harleigh Propst. With the score deadlocked at 21, Abby Peduzzi's kill, followed by consecutive attack errors from Ferrum pushed the Braves to the brink of set point, before Savannah Whaley's final kill sealed the win.
SET 4 I 25-13 UNC Pembroke secured a decisive 25-13 victory in the fourth set against Ferrum, showcasing a strong offensive performance. McKenna Hayes and Abby Peduzzi were key contributors, with McKenna Hayes delivering multiple kills, including one at 16-7 and another at 23-13. Anaya Carter's serving proved pivotal, achieving back-to-back aces to extend the lead to 8-3. Ferrum's Catherine Bennett attempted to keep her team in contention with several kills, but the set concluded with Abby Peduzzi's kill to seal the victory.
