No. 25 Lincoln Memorial Stops Women's Basketball

PEMBROKE The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team picked up 27 points from its bench, but No. 25 Lincoln Memorial held the lead for 58-percent of the contest on the way to a 66-54 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 

The setback for the Braves (2-8) marks the second consecutive loss and fall to 2-4 when playing at home. The Railsplitters (10-1) have now won five straight games and improve to 3-1 when playing on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
The first quarter began with Lincoln Memorial's Kamil Collier scoring a layup to open the game. UNC Pembroke answered with Bre'Asia Washington's jumper at 8:38 to tie the score at 2-2. Lauren Bell and Natalie Evington contributed to a scoring run, with Evington hitting a three-pointer at 2:51 to help the Braves build a 7-4 lead. Anastasia Sinclair further extended the margin by finishing at the rim at 2:15 and adding two free throws with 31 seconds left. The quarter concluded with Lexi Patty scoring a layup for Lincoln Memorial, making the score 12-8 in favor of the Braves.
2ND QUARTER
Lincoln Memorial took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Braves 17-9. Bre'Asia Washington initially extended the UNCP' lead with consecutive jumpers, pushing the score to 16-10, but Lincoln Memorial responded with a 7-0 run, including a key three-pointer by Patty at the 5:30 mark to give LMU an 18-15 advantage. A late layup by Sariya Henry with 12 seconds left solidified the Lincoln Memorial lead at 25-21 as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 
3RD QUARTER
Lincoln Memorial pushed its lead out to 31-21 after a jumper from Kamil Collier at the 6:44 mark. However, Camille Kerridge responded for the Braves with a jumper and two free throws at 5:51 to narrow the gap to 31-25. The Railsplitters maintained control, highlighted by a fastbreak three-pointer from Asia Barr at 4:38. Patty's three-pointer with 31 seconds remaining capped off the quarter, giving Lincoln Memorial a 47-36 lead heading into the final quarter.
4TH QUARTER
In the fourth quarter, Grace Ikenegbu initiated scoring for the Braves with a layup at 9:43, reducing the deficit. Collier responded immediately for Lincoln Memorial with a jumper, keeping their lead intact. Anastasia Sinclair contributed eight points for the Braves, including a layup with 24 seconds remaining in the contest. Despite the UNCP efforts, Lincoln Memorial maintained their advantage throughout the quarter, with Smiddy adding a three-pointer and multiple free throws. Lincoln Memorial narrowly outscored the Braves 19-18 in the quarter, securing a 66-54 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Camille Kerridge finished with a game and career-high 20 points on a 7-for-11 shooting performance. The freshman pulled down one rebound as well in 28 minutes of work. 
+ Anastasia Sinclair added 10 points after shooting 4-for-8 from the floor. Sinclair grabbed six defensive rebounds as well.
+ Grace Ikenegbu chipped in eight points to go along with five rebounds in 31 minutes of action. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 41.5 percent from the field while Lincoln Memorial shot 42.2 percent from the floor.
+ LMU finished Wednesday's contest making 11-of-17 free throw attempts, while UNCP was 7-for-9 from the charity stripe. 
+ The Black & Gold posted a 39-29 advantage in rebounds. 
+ The Railsplitters scored 13 points from 17 UNC Pembroke turnovers. 
UP NEXT
The Braves will resume Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when they trek to Bristol, Tenn., to face King. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside the Student Center Complex.
