HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Chowan took what would be its largest lead of the night, 8-5, with a jumper from Meara Carter halfway through the opening period. UNC Pembroke answered with a 9-0 run fueled by a pair of threes from Kelci Adams and a triple from Stella Mollica to lead 14-8 with 3:30 on the clock. The Braves shot 53.8 percent during the frame and held a 19-12 lead following a 3-pointer from Kelci Adams as time expired.
2ND QUARTER
The Braves started the quarter on a 7-0 surge to push their lead out to 26-12 after a fastbreak layup from Anastasia Sinclair at the 6:20 mark. The hosts took their largest lead of the contest, 33-17, with 2:20 on the clock after a free throw from Hannah Russell, but Chowan outscored UNCP 6-2 in the final minutes to send the teams to the locker room with the Braves holding a 35-23 lead.
3RD QUARTER
Chowan put together an 8-4 run to start the half and work its deficit back to 39-31 following a pair of free throws from Sa'ni Savage, but a layup from Tiana Spann and a three from Anastasia Sinclair cushioned the UNC Pembroke lead, 44-31, with just under six minutes on the clock. Both teams shot better than 53 percent from the floor during the quarter, but the Braves held a slight 51-43 advantage heading into the final stanza.
4TH QUARTER
Stella Mollica knocked down a three to push the UNC Pembroke lead out to 54-43 just 54 seconds into the period, but an old-fashioned three-point play from Yasmine Brown cut Chowan's deficit back to 54-46 with 8:50 remaining in regulation. The Braves made good on 12-of-16 attempts from the free throw line during the quarter to help fuel the victory.
